May News To Know From Mentors 4 Kids
Mentors 4 Kids is excited to welcome Katharine Stewart to our staff. Katharine joins us from Carmi, Illinois where she has lived for the past ten years. In 2015 Katharine graduated from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri with her Bachelor’s Degree in Social work. Since then, she has worked in various social service settings with adults, children and families in some of their toughest life moments. While in college, Katharine was part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program where she was matched with her “little.” They are now entering their sixth year as a match and keep in touch despite the distance! When she moved to Carmi and heard that there was an agency locally that matched caring adult roll-models with kids in need, she knew she wanted to be a part. Katharine is now the full-time Program Coordinator for our program and works hard to make sure that each match we make is the best for both the mentor and the mentee. Katharine says “this program is excellent and definitely worth the investment- I can personally attest to that. I believe in Mentors 4 Kids and am so excited to see lives changed by simply being involved six hours a month- even that makes a difference.”
In other mentoring news we are excited for new matches in White, Saline and Williamson counties. As we work through the application process, screening, interviews, and training we get excited to start thinking about what mentor and mentee will make a good match. We make a match and the first ‘check up’ call is made the next week. Immediate gratification comes when the child says they had a great time, parent/guardian says my child they are a great match and/or the mentor says-thank you, I know we are going to be great friends.
Mentoring matters and is needed in southern, Illinois. If you would like to support Mentors 4 Kids, we have several ways to do that.
