Mentors 4 Kids Governing Board of Directors

 In Newsletter

Happy March! In this month’s newsletter board members share the many reasons why they serve on the board of Mentors 4 Kids.  Because All kids matter-these directors share their time and gifts to attend meetings, recruit and fundraise, in addition to their family schedules and jobs. Many thanks for all they do to support mentoring in southern Illinois.

Be sure to check out some fundraisers that are scheduled this year in our Events section. Mother’s Day smoked pork sale May 11 & 12, is a great treat for your mom and the cooking is done for you. Also, our 8th Annual Tees 4 Kids Golf Scramble is on the calendar for July 14.  This is always a fun day to get away from the office and support a good cause.

Mentoring really does make a difference in the life of a child and the need in our area only seems to grow. Maybe you or someone you know would be willing to share 6 hours a month with a child.  Most times, the mentor is the one who receives the biggest reward!!!

Blessings,

Vickey Taake

Executive Director

I serve on the Mentors 4 Kids board because I believe in the mission of the organization, that is to match caring adult volunteers with children in need to spend quality time with them. There is such a need in our southern Illinois communities for programs that guide children and adolescents toward positive values, provide positive and nurturing experiences, help enable them to achieve their potential, allow them to know that they are valued and cared for by others, and to realize their dreams. I have witnessed first hand the power that mentoring can have on the development of our youth…it can be transformative. Community-based mentoring is an evidenced-based intervention for at-risk youth, and the Mentors 4 Kids program is particularly well run. I am proud to be a part of this organization, humbled to serve with other board members who volunteer time and resources to help ensure the success of the organization, and honored to work with such wonderful staff members who promote the organization and help ensure the quality of our matches.

It gives me great satisfaction that M4K is able to positively impact the life of each child we are able to serve thanks to our wonderful mentor volunteers.

I chose to serve on the board of directors of Mentors 4 Kids because I feel it is very important for the children in our area and surrounding counties to be assisted in developing their lives and their future. Many of them need a mentor to assist them in going through life and possibly making their future more successful. I have been very fortunate in my life to have an outstanding family, but that is not always the case with some of the children from our area. Mentors 4 Kids works very hard to match mentors with mentees that can have an everlasting relationship.

Before our daughter was born, my father-in-law, who is one of the finest people I’ve ever met, gave me this advice: “the one thing kids really want is your time.”  Being a parent has proven that statement to be so true.  This is why I am so proud to serve on the board of Mentors 4 Kids; this organization works hard everyday to make sure that kids have not only what they want, but what they truly need; time with an adult mentor who cares about them and provides them with a positive role model.  It is such a privilege to hear the many stories of the young lives that are being positively impacted by these relationships; doing everything I can to help make sure more children have this opportunity is why I serve on the Mentors 4 Kids board.
